Bespoke hand made jewellery tailored to you - Made with real LEGO!
00:52
So here is the main reason I haven't posted anything for a short while. I have been thinking about doing these for quite a while now but only recently went for it. I have to say I am glad I did. For now I have only done bracelets however I have plans for other pieces of jewellery as well as other bracelet designs.
The image above is the first I made which was for my fiancée. Made with an alternating sequence of light pink and purple studs threaded onto stretchy elasticated cord. This elastic is thinner than the stuff I am using now as this was my first one to see how well it would work.
I also made this one for my little daughter to match her mothers.
It was quite tricky to get the knack right for drilling the 1 x 1 round plates (aka studs). I did first look into the studs that already have holes in them but sadly the colour availability of these were too limiting. I do however quite enjoy drilling the holes into these. It's strangely therapeutic.

I am a member of various Lego related facebook pages and I posted these up on one of the more popular ones. I have already sold half a dozen of these to various people. The bracelets aren't just for females either, I've had both male and female people buy these bracelets in a variety of colours. For both adults and children. I am tailoring the bracelets to the person's wrist measurement. I allow an extra 1cm or 1/2 an inch approx so that the bracelet is not tight. Below are pictures of some other bracelets I have made for people.
As you can see the first few bracelets I hand drew the headers for the grip seal bags. They looked too plain without it. However I have now printed myself some better looking header cards. Here is another bracelet I made for someone yesterday.
As previously stated this is just the start of my ideas for hand made jewellery using Lego. Here is a piece of concept art for another bracelet design. Once I find a minifigure I am willing to sacrifice I will be making one to see how it looks and just as important; how it feels on the wrist when worn.
So that brings us almost at the end of this post. I really do enjoy making these and I have definitely found myself a new hobby. I am happy to make these for people just like you so if you would like one then please get in touch. They are tailored to fit your wrist. Or whomever the bracelet is for. I can get both solid and transparent studs in a wide variety of colours. There are a select few rarer studs that are harder to obtain but not entirely impossible. These would however cost more.
If you would like a bracelet then please get in touch. For the stud bracelets they are £6 each + P&P (Which is £1 to Mainland UK). I am happy to ship overseas please enquire as to how much P&P would be to your country if you are outside of the UK.
You can contact me over at my facebook page: http://facebook.com/randbricks
Alternatively feel free to send me an email to: mike@randbricks.co.uk
You will need to specify what colour(s) you would like. Whether you want them in a specific sequence. Your wrist measurement exact + 1CM or 1/2 an inch.
You can pay via PayPal or bank transfer, please specify when contacting me.
Note that if you pay with paypal then an additional 3.4% +£0.20 will be added to cover PayPal's fees.

I am a hobbyist and any money gained from making these goes back into more Lego products and other related goodness to review on my blog.
Below are all the available colours for both solid and transparent studs. The majority of them are easy to obtain if I don't have them already. I will let you know if you select a colour that is too expensive or difficult to obtain, you will then have the choice to pay extra or select another colour. - Solid Dark Red for example is difficult to get.

Lego City Fire Car Set (30347) Review
12:41
Lego released the Lego City Fire Car set this year in 2016. I obtained this set not so long ago from Smyths in the UK which was given to my daughter in a free party bag. They were also available in the US free with qualifying Lego purchases from Toys R Us back in February 2016. The set contains one minifigure and has a piece count of 53. The pieces come loose inside the polybag along with the instruction leaflet.
Minifigure
The set contains just one minifigure. He is a jolly looking gentleman with a happy smiling face showing his teeth. He has brown facial hair consisting of a beard and mustache as well as brown eye brows. He wears a white helmet. His torso is printed both sides. On the front he has a green hi-vis vest over his black overalls. The silver high visibilty strip is of a shiny metallic silver as is his belt buckle and part of his flashlight. His hi-vis vest has a pocket on one side and a red torch on the other. Finished off with a dark tan coloured utility belt. Over to the back of the torso the hi-vis strip is continued but divided by the fire service logo which is also metallic silver. The utility belt is also continued on the back and has a metallic silver radio on one side, in the middle is a metallic silver ring and then there are two looped bits on the right which are dark tan to match the belt. His legs are printed on the front with green and metallic silver on black as well as having print for his front pockets. To finish off he has dark grey gloves.

The Build
The build consists of a fire car and a green dust bin. The dust bin itself is green without a lid piece and comes with a transparent orange flame piece that fixes to a brown 1x1 round brick via a hole in the top of it. The brick and flame are not attached inside the dust bin and just sits inside loosely.
Now moving on to the fire car. It is primarily red in colour as it is an emergency fire vehicle. There is some white, grey and black pieces for contrast. On the front of the car is a radiator grill between two transparent yellow smooth tile studs which sits above a 1x4 white smooth tile. On the bonnet area is a printed piece with a fire service emblem. There is a variety of different pieces to then make up the rest of the shape of the vehicle which includes a white based black steering wheel. There is a 2x2 space for the minifigure to sit inside the car. Behind that is a white fence rail piece with two transparent blue smooth tile studs on top. These are the emegency lights when whizzing through busy Lego streets! Behind that there is a 2x2 area where the dustbin can rest. On the rear of the vehicle is two grey clips which hold a black fire axe and a black radio accessory. Integrated into the rear of the car are two 1x1 transparent red plates for the rear lights. Our fire man also has his trusty fire hose which is made up of a yellow 'tap' piece and a yellow 1x1 round brick which is shown in the final photograph at the end of the review. That just about covers the build.
I have to admit I do like the design of the car although simple it is rather effective for the low piece count. It has enough playability on it's own but with only a dust bin fire to put out our little fireman might be twiddling his thumbs for most the day. This would make a great little addition to any Lego City collection. I do recommend this set if you are able to get your hands on it. We must leave it here as our busy fireman has a dust bin fire to attend to!

Lego Creator Parrot Set (30472) Review
12:36
Lego released the Lego Creator Parrot Set as promotional freebie that available back in January 2016. You could get the set with a calendar token at Lego brand stores. In the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand you were also able to get this promotional freebie with a qualifying purchase from Lego Stores and Lego's online shop in May 2016. It consists of 43 pieces. There are no minifigures in this set and the pieces are loose inside the polybag along with the instruction leaflet.
The Build
Whilst this is only a small build the detail and playability is great. It is a very colourful parrot consisting of red, yellow, black, grey, two shades of blue and white pieces with black print for the eyes. I'm not usually a fan of Creator sets myself but I have to say I really do like this little creature. It is definitely an improvement on the previous Lego Creator Parrot (30021) which I also have.
The parrot has three moveable parts. The two wings which are pivoted on a ball connector for rotational as well as directional movement. The tail is connected via a double clip piece and moves vertically.
The Verdict
So that brings us to the end of this simple but effective little set. Whilst I do prefer not to have sets without Minifigures myself I have to say this little creature is one of my favourite polybag builds. I definitely recommend this set. My daughter seems to love him although she is only almost 2 at the moment so he will become hers in just over a year when she is old enough to take good care of him. I'd like to thank you for taking the time to read through my review and I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Our little parrot would like to say; "So long and thanks for all the fish". I think he has been watching too much television.

A Spaceman came travelling...
10:54
As well as reviewing Lego on my blog I will also be posting giveaways as you can see there is currently one live at the moment.
I will also be posting anything else Lego related.
Which brings me to a piece of art I am currently working on which I started late yesterday evening.
I decided to draw this picture from a photograph posted on a Lego facebook page by a gent called Steve Hart.
This is the piece so far. I should hopefully have it finished in a few days at most.
I am undecided at the moment whether to colour it, leave it plain or shade instead; - however I am swaying towards colour, as Lego is and should be bright and colourful !
Feedback highly appreciated :)
This may be up for sale in the near future.

Lego Series Minifigures Ribba Framing - Prototype
15:59
Hello Readers,
I haven't posted a review for a few days yet. I will be posting more reviews as soon as possible.
In the meantime I really want to get my Lego Series Minifigures framed.
I have custom drawn all of my backgrounds in Illustrator. I have done the following below.
As I have custom drawn the backgrounds in Illustator they are in Vector format. Vector is line art, as opposed to pixels it is instead made up of lines and points. Which means in short, it doesn't matter how big these are enlarged they will never pixelate or loose quality. To get them ready for printing I have had to save them as pixel based .png files. However they are saved in an extremely high resolution. 12000 x 12000 to be precise. This might sound like jargen to you, don't worry. Just think, a Full HD television is 1080p (which means there are 1080 pixels from top to bottom)
What this all comes down to, is the photo prints I recieve should be extremely sharp and of a high quality. Here are some close up pictures for you to see.
These are for my own personal use to mount my Lego Series Minifigures in. They will be mounted into Ribba Frames.
I put together a prototype background and frame yesterday to see exactly how the minifigures are going to fit inside and whether or not any bricks would need to be moved.
I started by taking some old card I didn't need. Drew a square big enough for the background and cut it out.
From there I marked out the measurements and drew a template based on the measurements of my illustrator designs. I then placed white tack where each brick will be. This is just a temporary option, the final frames will have the bricks glued on.
From there I just stuck each inverted slope where they need to go. I have used all 2x3 slopes here however my final frames will use 2x2 inverted slopes for the majority of the minifigures and some 2x3 inverted slopes for those that are too big for the 2x2.
With all that done I just needed to now check that all my minifigures will fit nicely onto the bricks and then into the frame. However I did come across a little problem with Ursula. The bottom part of her is just a teeny tiny bit too big to fit on the 2x3 slope so I had to cut a little bit out of the cardboard backing for her to fit properly. When I my final frames I will be backing the prints onto card so I will do the same for her.

So there we have it. The Disney minifigures fit perfectly. I will however swap Ariel over to the far right where Maleficent currently is. Maleficent will be moved to the left one and the other minifigures (Cheshire Cat, Alice and Stitch) will all be moved to the left one. The reason for this is then I will have one 2x3 inverted slope in the bottom left for Ursula and one in the bottom right for Ariel. The remaining minifigures will all be mounted onto 2x2 slopes.
That's it for now, I just wanted to share this project with you. I just need to check my other minifigure series will fit into the frame properly without the need for moving any of the brick locations, once that is done I will be ordering my photo prints which are ready.
